Complete Guide

SSC CPO is a national-level recruitment examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission for recruitment to Sub-Inspector posts in Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces. The examination includes written examinations, physical tests and medical examination.

The major stages are Paper-I, Physical Standard Test (PST)/Physical Endurance Test (PET), Paper-II, Detailed Medical Examination (DME) and Document Verification. All prescribed stages are mandatory.

SI (GD) in CAPFs

Educational Qualification

For Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and Sub-Inspector (GD) in CAPFs, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification.

Candidates who have appeared in their Bachelor’s degree examination can also apply, but they must possess the required qualification by the closing date of online applications.

Educational Qualification for SI (Fire) in CISF

For SI (Fire), candidates must have either:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, or
  • Matriculation/equivalent with a three-year diploma in relevant engineering disciplines such as Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Automobile, Chemical, Mining, Aeronautical or Telecommunication Engineering.

The notification also states that relevant B.Tech/M.Tech qualifications may be considered as value addition where the basic diploma qualification is present.

Driving Licence Requirement

For SI in Delhi Police – Male, candidates must possess a valid driving licence for LMV (Motorcycle and Car) on the date fixed for the Physical Endurance and Measurement Tests.

Male candidates without the required driving licence can apply for SI posts in CAPFs, but they are not eligible for the Delhi Police SI post.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should satisfy the prescribed nationality, educational, age and physical requirements.

A candidate must be:

  1. A citizen of India, or
  2. A subject of Nepal, or
  3. A subject of Bhutan.

Candidates from Nepal or Bhutan require the prescribed certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India where applicable.

Candidates must also possess the required educational qualification by the prescribed cut-off date. The qualification must be supported by original documents during verification.

Age Limit

The crucial date for age calculation is 01 August 2026.

For all posts except SI (Fire) in CISF, the age limit is 20–25 years. Candidates must have been born between 02 August 2001 and 01 August 2006.

For SI (Fire) in CISF, the age limit is 18–30 years, with the candidate’s date of birth falling between 02 August 1996 and 01 August 2008.

For Delhi Police departmental candidates with at least three years of regular and continuous service, the upper age limits are up to 30 years for UR/EWS, 33 years for OBC and 35 years for SC/ST, subject to the conditions in the notification.

Application Fee

The application fee for SSC CPO 2026 is ₹100.

Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST and eligible Ex-Servicemen categories are exempted from payment of the application fee.

The fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking or Visa, MasterCard, Maestro or RuPay Debit Card. The last date for fee payment is 01 October 2026 at 11:00 PM.

Pay Scale

All three listed categories of posts carry Level-6 pay.

The SI (GD) posts in CAPFs and SI (Fire) in CISF are Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial posts, while SI (Executive) in Delhi Police is a Group ‘C’ post.

Physical Standards

Physical standards differ according to the post and candidate category.

Delhi Police SI

For general male candidates, the required height is 170 cm, with chest measurement of 80 cm unexpanded and 85 cm expanded.

For specified hill-area categories, the male height requirement is 165 cm, while the prescribed chest measurement remains 80–85 cm. For male candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes, the height requirement is 162.5 cm, with chest measurement of 77–82 cm.

For female candidates, the general height requirement is 157 cm. Specified hill-area female candidates require 155 cm, while female ST candidates require 154 cm.

CAPF SI

For general male candidates, the height requirement is 170 cm, with chest measurement of 80–85 cm.

Relaxed standards apply to specified hill-area, Gorkha and ST categories.

For general female candidates, the required height is 157 cm, while specified hill-area female candidates require 155 cm and female ST candidates require 154 cm.

SI Fire in CISF

For general male candidates, the required height is 170 cm and chest measurement is 81 cm unexpanded and 86 cm expanded. Relaxations are available for specified categories as mentioned in the notification.

Selection Process

The SSC CPO 2026 selection process consists of:

  1. Paper-I Computer Based Examination
  2. Physical Standard Test (PST)
  3. Physical Endurance Test (PET)
  4. Paper-II Computer Based Examination
  5. Detailed Medical Examination (DME/RME)
  6. Document Verification

Paper-I performance is used to shortlist candidates for PST/PET. Only candidates who qualify PST/PET proceed to Paper-II. Candidates are then shortlisted for medical examination based on Paper-II performance.

The minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I and Paper-II, without adding NCC bonus marks, are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS and 20% for all other categories.
